Modern and Jazz

Modern and Jazz classes are an opportunity for dancers to express themselves to their favourite music! The classes have several elements and are for dancers aged from five years. Some sections of the lessons allow dancers to develop their own creativity and choreographic skills, working both as a soloist and in groups. Some sections train dancers to develop their observational skills by following choreography quickly before replicating it in minutes. Other sections are based on the Imperial Society of Teacher’s of Dance (ISTD) syllabi.

The focus of the syllabi is on enjoyment and develops in complexity in terms of both dance technique, rhythms, and performance presentation. Like the RAD, the emphasis on the levels for young dancers is to explore a variety of music scores and natural movement, whilst being appropriately challenged. Exercises are often themed and the dancers are able to embellish and interpret these with personal creativity. The class focus is on creating a sense of fun and enjoyment throughout, and offers dancers an opportunity to study for an examination if they so wish.
