Tap

The focus of our Tap classes are for students to explore a range of steps, movements, rhythms and sounds whilst having fun with their friends. Lessons are suitable for students aged 4 years and upwards and develop students’ Tap technique and artistry whilst they share a sense of fun and enjoyment together. Our classes follow the world renowned Imperial Society of Dance Teacher’s (ISTD) examination system and students have opportunities to undertake optional examinations. Lessons also focus on developing students’ creativity, developing choreographic skill both as a soloist and in a group setting in set choreographic tasks as well as improvisation activities. There is a focus on music and its relationship to dance, with students studying a range of musical styles, time signatures, tempos, and rhythmic values.

Throughout all our classes students develop skills ready for performances and the stage, such as communication, expression, projection and interpretation. There is a focus on developing students wider dance knowledge by exploring dance history in our three genres and how these have been shaped and evolved over time with influences such as music, art, architecture, photography, design and fashion. We encourage students to take on new experiences both in class and in the wider community by offering opportunities to see live theatre, take part in performances and explore our dance fields.
